Nikola Valchev was born in 1897 in the village of Marakesh, Vidin region. He graduated from the Academy of Arts in 1934 under professors Stefan Ivanov and Tseno Todorov, specializing in painting. He is a classic artist in Bulgarian fine arts. His works have been present in primers and textbooks since the time of socialism.
